Over 1,000 Ecstasy pills seized during traffic stop

KEMPTVILLE – A Quebec man is facing a number of drug-related charges after North Grenville O.P.P. seized over 1,000 Ecstasy pills.

An officer stopped on Friday to help a motorist with a broken-down vehicle on the side of Highway 416 in North Grenville.

Police say the officer was tipped off to drugs in the vehicle after smelling marijuana and seeing a joint on the floor of the car.

A man and woman in the car were arrested and each charged.

Officers say they recovered cannabis, six grams of cocaine, 1,080 Ecstasy pills (also known as MDMA) and seven pills of speed.

The drugs are estimated to be worth $15,985.

The man, 59, from Temiscaming, Que. is facing four drug trafficking charges as well as one count of failing to comply with a probation order.

The woman was also held pending a bail hearing.
